Barn Owl

The barn owl is probably the best-known nocturnal owl, with its white heart-shaped face and golden-brown speckled plumage. It nests in barns, church towers and old buildings. A silent hunter, it flies low over meadows and roadsides at night in search of small rodents. In the Vendée, you may encounter it at dusk near farms and villages.
