Short-eared Owl

The short-eared owl is an unusual owl: it regularly hunts in broad daylight, flying low over meadows and marshes in search of voles. Its slow, buoyant flight on long, rounded wings makes it easy to spot. Its striking yellow eyes ringed with black give it an intense look. In the Vendée marshes, it is one of the easiest raptors to observe, especially in winter when birds from the north come to join the local population.
