Long-eared Owl

The long-eared owl is a medium-sized nocturnal owl, easily recognised by the long ear tufts on its head. During the day it hides in dense trees, where its streaked brown plumage makes it nearly invisible. It hunts small rodents at night over meadows and marshes. In the Vendée, it is most often noticed by its deep, repeated call during spring and summer.
