herons and storks photographed
Herons and allies include the herons, egrets, ibises, spoonbills and storks found in the marshes and wet meadows along the Vendée coast. These are large, patient wading birds, often seen standing motionless at the water's edge waiting for fish, frogs and insects. Some species, like the cattle egret, prefer dry grassland and follow livestock around — hence the name.
